Mariners | Carson Smith to receive rest?

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:29:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners RP Carson Smith needs some rest, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. However, it's unclear how that might affect the Mariners' plans in the ninth inning moving forward.

Fantasy Tip: If Smith is rested in the ninth inning, the most obvious option for the M's would be to use former closer Fernando Rodney in a save situation, even though he continues to have his issues. If you're extremely desperate for saves and Rodney is available, pick him up for the short term.

Mariners | SEA gets calls for Hisashi Iwakuma

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 22:06:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma has been garnering plenty of interest, as the team has heard from several teams. The Mariners have yet to commit firmly to trading Iwakuma.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is tentatively set to take the ball Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but FantasyScore players will want to be very careful to make sure he is not a late scratch.

Mariners | Fernando Rodney tipping pitches?

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 15:47:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners RP Fernando Rodney may be tipping his pitches, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.

Fantasy Tip: Rodney gave up two earned runs and a walk in an inning in his latest outing last Saturday, and he's allowed seven earned runs in 8 2/3 frames in July, boosting his ERA this year to 5.90. He hasn't done anything to justify being used over Carson Smith in the ninth inning moving forward. Only hang onto Rodney in the deepest of AL-only leagues in the unlikely event that he regains the ninth-inning job.

Mariners | Mike Montgomery struggling lately

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 14:21:37 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Mike Montgomery allowed eight runs (six earned) on six hits in just 2 2/3 innings to the Detroit Tigers in his last start, and he is 0-2 with a 9.27 ERA in his last three starts. Montgomery is 4-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 starts for the Mariners this year.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) will probably be overlooked by many in daily games because of his poor outings recently. Avoiding him again against Arizona might be wise, too, since the D-backs rank in the top 10 in OPS against lefties (.726) and on the road (.708) this season.

Mariners | Kyle Seager producing at plate

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 10:06:47 -0700

Seattle Mariners 3B Kyle Seager is hitting .414 with three home runs and six RBI since July 9. He has also recorded 10 multi-hit games this month.

Fantasy Tip: Seager ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has been pretty consistent this season but has really started to find success in July. Seager should be a nightly starting option in FantasyScore while he is on his hot streak.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz on a roll

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 20:10:34 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored in a 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, July 26, extending his hitting streak to six games.

Fantasy Tip: During the streak, Cruz ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) has four homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored, and he has four multi-hit games. When he is hitting like this, he is worth every penny at FantasyScore.

Mariners | Robinson Cano serving as DH

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 13:12:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Sunday, July 26. INF Chris Taylor will bat seventh and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is 9-for-32 against Buehrle in his career, with two doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs. Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has also experienced some success versus the lefty, with three hits in five lifetime at-bats against Buehrle.

Mariners | Franklin Gutierrez in lineup

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 13:10:23 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez will bat fifth and play left field against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Sunday, July 26. OF Seth Smith is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has enjoyed a great deal of success against Buehrle in his career, so he is a great value pick in FantasyScore today. He is 8-for-22 with one double, two home runs and nine RBIs against the lefty.

Mariners | Brad Miller back in lineup

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 13:08:40 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller will bat eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is only batting .222 during the month of July and is 1-for-15 (.067) over the past week. Avoid using him in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Mariners | Mike Zunino back in lineup

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 13:06:05 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Mike Zunino is back in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle Sunday, July 26, batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Zunino ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is 6-for-19 with four doubles over the past week but he remains one of the worst starting catching options in baseball from an offensive standpoint. Avoid using him in FantasyScore.

Mariners | Robinson Cano enjoying lineup change

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 19:07:02 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is hitting .417 with two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs scored in six games since being moved to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is quickly erasing a horribly slow first half of the year. However, he is still hitting just .215 against lefties, so you may want to avoid him Sunday when Mark Buehrle ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) takes the mound for Toronto.

Mariners | Fernando Rodney struggling

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 16:12:52 -0700

Seattle Mariners RP Fernando Rodney gave up a two-run home run to tie the game in the eighth inning Saturday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Rodney entered the outing with a 5.87 ERA in July. Manager Lloyd McClendon said he wanted Rodney to regain the closer gig, but Carson Smith appears to have a firm grip on it.

Mariners | Chris Taylor back in lineup

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 11:48:31 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Chris Taylor will bat eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Saturday, July 25. SS Brad Miller is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is only batting .179 with one RBI through 78 at-bats and is not a great FantasyScore option.

Mariners | Jesus Sucre catching Saturday

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 11:17:44 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Jesus Sucre will bat ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Saturday, July 25. C Mike Zunino is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Sucre ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) only has one hit in 28 at-bats this season and should not be considered for any FantasyScore lineups.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo settling in

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 05:38:06 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI during the Mariners' 5-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Over his past 16 games, Trumbo ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has a .358/.400/.510 slash line, and while his counting stats leave a lot to be desired (five runs, two home runs and eight RBI), it is a step in the right direction for the slugger. He should be owned in the majority of seasonal leagues, and FantasyScore players can target him in favorable matchups while he is hitting well.
