Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi pitched eight scoreless frames against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, July 22. He allowed five hits, walked no one and struck out five. Odorizzi was not involved in the decision.
Fantasy Tip: After a couple of tough outings to start the month, Odorizzi has rebounded to make back-to-back excellent starts: 14 IP, 12 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 12 K's. Only an equally impressive performance from Oakland's Sean Manaea kept Odorizzi out of the win column on Friday. The right-hander should be owned in all AL-only and deep mixed leagues, and he's an interesting option in standard formats as well.

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Rays 1B Logan Morrison (forearm) has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his forearm and received a shot, according to manager Kevin Cash. He could be available off the bench Saturday, July 23.
Fantasy Tip: Consider Morrison to be day-to-day for now, with INF Steve Pearce likely to receive most of the playing time at first base in his absence. Morrison is batting .232 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI through 85 games and should only be owned in AL-only and cavernous mixed seasonal leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce rested his right hamstring as a precaution to avoid aggravating the injury Thursday, July 21, so it's good to see him right back in the lineup Friday. Pearce is 3-for-9 with two runs, a home run and four RBI since returning from the disabled list. He's picked up right where he left off before the injury, albeit while taking advantage of hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce has a .322-10-29 line in 183 at-bats, and he could be dealt into a part-time role. He should remain at least a single-universe option in fantasy.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has been a lights-out closer when healthy, especially as Brad Boxberger has been out all season with injuries. Colome's chances for saves are somewhat limited due to Tampa Bay's woes, but he should still be played in all relevant formats.

Fantasy Tip: With Logan Morrison (forearm) sidelined and Steve Pearce due for a night off, the team had to do something. It did. Beckham has a .223 average but also has a .438 slugging percentage. He may not be quite ready for daily play, but his fantasy value could see a climb due to an extra position being added to his versatility.

Fantasy Tip: Morrison has missed the past few games with a wrist issue, but it looks like he'll be able to escape a trip to the DL. While he remains sidelined, that could provide some extra at-bats for the likes of Tim Beckham and Oswaldo Arcia.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (hamstring) said he's out of the starting lineup as a precaution Thursday, July 21, after he was "feeling" his hamstring due to fatigue. He expects to start Friday, July 22.
Fantasy Tip: Pearce just returned from a hamstring injury, so the Rays are being cautious and easing him back into action. Because he was producing a nice .322/.393/.552 slash line with 10 homers and 29 RBI, he's expected to play most of the time at first base. That'll hurt Logan Morrison the most.
Thu, 21 Jul 2016 15:37:06 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Aside from the wrist problems, Morrison was likely to lose valuable playing time anyway with Steve Pearce returning from the DL earlier this week. That combined with a weak .232 averrage, Morrison should only be owned for depth in AL-only leagues for his power (10 home runs).

Fantasy Tip: Pearce just came off the DL Tuesday, so the Rays are likely easing him back in. With a .322/.393/.552 slash line, 10 homers and 29 RBI, he plays in most deep mixed and AL leagues as long as he's playing regularly. Beckham had five hits last night to continue his hot July (.462), but he has just three homers and 10 RBI on the year and remains a desperation flier in DFS.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson had a three-hit game, including a triple, Wednesday, July 20, against the Colorado Rockies, his former organization. He lifted his career average to .360 at Coors Field.
Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has listed his average 13 points since arriving at Coors Field thanks to a pair of three-hit games over the past two outings. He remains useful in AL-only fantasy leagues for his power potential, and he is a decent mid-tier DFS option.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 22:01:24 -0700
Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed just two earned runs, four hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday, July 20, against the Colorado Rockies. He threw 67 of his 105 pitches for strikes in the quality start.
Fantasy Tip: The win was Archer's first since June 6, and it was his first quality start in seven outings since June 17. He has a high strikeout rate and despite the lack of wins he is still a solid AL-only fantasy option and DFS play.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 22:00:57 -0700
Tampa Bay Rays SS Tim Beckham went 5-for-5 with a double, run scored and two RBIs Wednesday, July 20, against the Colorado Rockies. Despite the career-high five-hit game Beckham is still hitting just .213.
Fantasy Tip: Beckham can be mostly ignored outside of deeper AL-only fantasy leagues despite the big stat line.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners are happy with Moore lately, despite his 5-7 record, as he has been able to go deep into games. He is a decent AL-only fantasy play and mid-tier DFS option.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 20:44:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cobb is making slow but steady progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. He might be back sometime in September, but he isn't likely to help fantasy owners until 2017.
