Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) is not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season but is not believed to be dealing with a long-term injury. Cobb should be a solid option on FantasyScore when he returns because of his strikeout potential.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is expected to miss the first week or two of the regular season, so owners should keep an eye on his recovery. Smyly could be a solid option on FantasyScore when he returns and could be a middle- to late-round pick in fantasy drafts.

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has a home matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. The O's lost a lot of offense, and 1B Chris Davis still has a game remaining on his suspension. Archer is a solid option on FantasyScore at a reduced rate from the rest of the SP1s.

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Nick Franklin (oblique) is expected to start the season on the disabled list, and 2B Logan Forsythe will receive the majority of playing time at the keystone, according to manager Kevin Cash.
Fantasy Tip: Continue to check back for updates on Franklin's return timeline. In favorable matchups, Forsythe ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) could be a low-priced flier for FantasyScore players. Although, cap relief would likely be his best asset. When healthy, Franklin has power potential, but he is a .213 hitter through his first 502 at-bats. He is best left to the waiver wire in the majority of fantasy formats.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) is expected to throw his third bullpen of the spring Thursday, March 26, but manager Kevin Cash doesn't think Smyly will be able to appear in a game in spring training.
Fantasy Tip: Smyly recorded a 1.70 ERA and 0.76 WHIP while compiling 44 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings over seven starts after being traded to the Rays in 2014. Smyly will need to be monitored, but his shoulder injury shouldn't keep him out for long. He's worth stashing late in mixed league drafts for his upside.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb is expected to miss the first couple weeks of the 2015 regular season. His fantasy stock as a No. 2 starter shouldn't really chance much unless he suffers a significant setback. He'll also be a nice source of strikeouts for FantasyScore users once he's back in late April.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (elbow) was pleased with his third bullpen of the spring Tuesday, March 24, and he said he'll throw five more bullpens before facing hitters. He'll throw another 30-pitch session Friday, March 27. McGee continues to throw at 70 or 80% and just started throwing curve balls again off flat ground Monday, March 23.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the fact that McGee is expected to miss all of April, he's still worth drafting and stashing in mixed leagues for saves down the road. Brad Boxberger is the popular candidate to see most of the ninth-inning duties until McGee returns, and he'll be a late-round speculation for saves.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Brandon Guyer (ankle) was given the day off Monday, March 23, due to a mild ankle sprain. Guyer is expected to play in a minor league game Wednesday, March 25, and he might receive six to nine at-bats in that game.
Fantasy Tip: Guyer is likely to serve as a backup in right field behind Steven Souza, and he could see some at-bats as the designated hitter as well. He has a little pop and could be a nice low-end FantasyScore play at just $2,000 (or 4.0% of cap) when he starts.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza (forearm) left the Grapefruit League spring game Monday, March 23, after a hit by pitch, but he was scheduled to leave the game anyway. After the game he said he was fine.
Fantasy Tip: Souza sounds like he is fine, and he remains a breakout candidate to target in the late middle rounds in drafts as long as he can remain healthy. FantasyScore owners will also want to remember him early in the season as he could be a solid value at just $4,100 (or 8.2% of cap).

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Colome (illness) has re-discovered his appetite, and he has gained back five of the 10 pounds he lost while in the hospital dealing with pneumonia. He was able to throw a 20-pitch bullpen session Monday, March 23, and he said he felt good.
Fantasy Tip: Colome was in the mix for the No. 5 rotation job, and he was considered the favorite before his bout with illness. It's uncertain if his status as favorite has changed during this layoff, but being out certainly has helped his chances.
Mon, 23 Mar 2015 22:18:20 -0700
Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) said Monday, March 23, that he felt good, as he continues to recover from right forearm tendinitis. Cobb is scheduled to visit a team orthopedist Tuesday, March 24.
Fantasy Tip: Cobb is expected to miss a couple of weeks to start the season, but FantasyScore owners might be able to depend on him in late April to early May if he keeps progressing. He will be a nice source of strikeouts for daily players.
Mon, 23 Mar 2015 22:17:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Franklin could be a solid value for FantasyScore owners at $3,600 (or 7.2% of cap) if he is able to make it for the opener and finds himself in a starting role. That's a lot of ifs right now, and a stint on the 15-day disabled list could be a possibility. Alexi Casilla or Logan Forsythe could start at second base if Franklin is unable to go.
Mon, 23 Mar 2015 19:00:24 -0700
Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera (calf) has been nursing a tight left calf, but he was able to take swings Monday, March 23. He might be able to return to spring game action Wednesday, March 25, after the team's scheduled day off.
Fantasy Tip: Rivera tops the depth chart in Tampa Bay. If he is forced to miss any time during the season it would be Curt Casali who would benefit the most.
Mon, 23 Mar 2015 13:52:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: McGee is expected to miss the first month of the season. In his absence, Brad Boxberger will likely receive the first look at ninth-inning duty. Both relievers warrant late-round attention for those who wait on closers in drafts. It is a volatile position, though, and there is potential for Boxberger to take the job and run with it all season or lose it in the first week of the season. It would be ill-advised to over invest in the Rays' bullpen.
Mon, 23 Mar 2015 13:47:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Smyly remains an upside arm to target in the late middle rounds of drafts, but it would be wise to continue monitoring his recovery progress leading into the season. He isn't expected to miss a significant amount of time and projects to return in mid-April, barring any setbacks.
