Fantasy Tip: It's simply a day off for the 26-year-old. Motter, meanwhile, has shown some promise thus far since being called up for the first time a couple weeks ago, but is far too inconsistent to implement in daily leagues at the moment.

Fantasy Tip: Boxberger is expected to be eased back into the closer role and probably will used in a few low-pressure situations to start. Owners may want to see how he is used before adding him to their roster, but he should be a starter once he receives save opportunities. Alex Colome likely will return to a setup role but still has value in most fantasy leagues.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi gave up only one hit and struck out six over seven innings Sunday, May 29, against the New York Yankees, but that one hit was a two-run shot off the bat of SS Starlin Castro, resulting in a 2-1 setback.
Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi did not allow a baserunner through six frames but ran into trouble in the seventh when he issued a one-out walk to Brett Gardner and served up Castro's decisive home run. The 26-year-old is somehow only 2-3 despite a 3.36 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, but he stands a decent shot at earning his third win of the season Friday in a road start against the Minnesota Twins.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Brad Boxberger (abdomen) is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list in the near future but he may not be used in pressure situations right away, according to manager Kevin Cash. "He'll get plenty of opportunities in the ninth inning," Cash said. "I don't know if it's the right thing to do to stick him out there in a 2-1 ballgame the first day he comes out. We'll work him into some outings, a little bit lower leverage." Cash did not rule out the possibility of using Boxberger in high-pressure situations early on.
Fantasy Tip: Boxberger is expected to regain the closer job at some point, but owners will need to monitor his workload over the first week or two. He should be added to starting lineups once he starts receiving save opportunities.

Fantasy Tip: Casali gets the starting nod after Hank Conger played in the first two games of this weekend's series. He is batting just .165 through 97 at-bats and is not a great fantasy option.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is out of the lineup against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Saturday, May 28. OF Mikie Mahtook will bat eighth and play center field. In addition, OF Steven Souza is back in the starting lineup, batting sixth and playing right field.
Fantasy Tip: Mahtook is just 1-for-9 since being called up and is not a recommended fantasy option this afternoon. On the other hand, Souza is 6-for-12 with a double, three home runs and six RBI versus Pineda in his career and makes an excellent value option for daily fantasy players.

Fantasy Tip: Archer has dropped his last two starts after recording victories in three consecutive decisions. He should be viewed as a somewhat risky play for his next scheduled start against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, June 1.
Fri, 27 May 2016 12:26:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Conger has only one hit in his last five games and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Friday, May 27. OF Brandon Guyer will start in right field, while OF Corey Dickerson will start in left field. 1B Steve Pearce will serve as the designated hitter, while INF Taylor Motter will start at second base and is batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Motter has received playing time at multiple positons since being recalled but is hitting only .222 in eight games. He does have two home runs and four RBI during that span, which makes him a sleeper starting candidate for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Guyer, Dickerson and Pearce are good options to be used in daily leagues.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly dropped to 2-6 after losing his start Thursday, May 26, versus the Miami Marlins. The left-hander went six innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and one walk, including two homers. He also struck out four.
Fantasy Tip: Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, Justin Bour and even Ichiro Suzuki were all out of the lineup, yet Smyly couldn't take advantage of what should have been a very favorable matchup opposite mostly backup position players. Smyly has been mostly steady thus far, and he's been a help for strikeouts and WHIP, but it seems like he's cooling off after a very solid first month and change to the year.
Thu, 26 May 2016 16:43:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has been one of the biggest busts of any offseason acquisition, but hopefully this performance can turn things back around, as he was really the only one in the lineup who could get anything going against a masterful Jose Fernandez. Still, after a fine April, Dickerson has slumped mightily in May, with just 11 hits in 62 at-bats. At least he has eight homers on the year.

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Logan Forsythe (shoulder) is feeling better and is targeting the next homestand (June 10 through the 19) to return from the disabled list. He took ground balls Wednesday, May 25, his first baseball activities since being injured May 9.
Fantasy Tip: Forsythe has really come into his own with the Rays at the leadoff spot, and he was sporting a .308/.398/.523 slash line with four home runs and 12 RBI before his injury. He should be stashed everywhere. Steve Pearce will lose some fantasy luster with Forsythe returning, as he has been filling in at the keystone. The power bat could move to first base and platoon with Logan Morrison.
Thu, 26 May 2016 09:56:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Boxberger surrendered a hit and struck out a batter in a scoreless inning Wednesday. He could throw once more and be ready to go for the Rays sometime this weekend or early next week. He should be stashed in all fantasy formats.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 26. OF Corey Dickerson draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. Also, SS Taylor Motter is playing third base and batting eighth with 3B Evan Longoria serving as the designated hitter.
Fantasy Tip: Dickerson and Motter have some pop, but neither is a strong choice in daily play today against Fernandez, who has a 3.02 ERA and 78 K's in just 53 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Well, after an absolutely dreadful start to the year, Morrison has managed to turn it around in a big way. On May 15, he was saddled with a disastrous .119 batting average, but since then, the 28-year-old has gone 15-for-27 with all three of his homers, as well as 10 RBI over that stretch. Owners in deep leagues should pay attention to see if he can keep it up.
