Rangers | Martin Perez wins again

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 17:24:19 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez won his sixth straight decision, allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out two over six innings against the Boston Red Sox Sunday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Perez has a respectable 3.44 ERA, but his poor strikeout totals limit his value to AL-only formats.

Rangers | Yu Darvish throws 30 pitches

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 17:20:44 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (shoulder) threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Texas isn't going to rush Darvish, so continue to stash him and hope he returns in time to help down the stretch of the season.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos not starting

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 10:53:58 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Sunday, June 26. C Bryan Holaday will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Holaday has not receive much playing time over the last month and is only 2-for-11 this month. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Rangers | Mitch Moreland drives in three

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 22:55:42 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland went 1-for-4 with three RBIs Saturday, June 25, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland has been consistent, driving in 11 runs in April, 10 runs in May and he has 10 runs driven in so far in June. He remains a solid fantasy option in AL-only fantasy leagues, deeper mixed formats and DFS play despite his low average.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus enjoys Boston pitching

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 22:55:11 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus went 1-for-2 with a triple, two walks, a run scored and three RBIs Saturday, June 25, against the Boston Red Sox. He has five RBIs in the first two games of the series against the Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus is enjoying his best offensive month of the season, posting a solid average with speed and plenty of runs scored. He remains a solid middle infielder option across most fantasy formats.

Rangers | Baker's dozen for Ian Desmond

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 22:54:43 -0700

Texas Rangers SS-OF Ian Desmond went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Saturday, June 25, against the Boston Red Sox. The home run was his 13th of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Desmond is hitting .322 with 13 homers and 49 RBIs, as he continues to roll up huge numbers. He is parlaying his one-year contract gamble into a possible big payday next offseason.

Rangers | A.J. Griffin to start Saturday

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 22:42:54 -0700

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin (shoulder) is set to be activated from the 15-day DL and start against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin pitched well prior to hitting the disabled list with shoulder stiffness, but he couldn't have picked a tougher opponent to return against. Griffin has clear AL-only and some deeper mixed value, but it might be prudent to keep him in reserve for his first start back.

Rangers | Matt Bush blows save

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 22:27:26 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Matt Bush allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in 1/3 of an inning against the Boston Red Sox on Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Bush, who'd allowed no runs and just one hit in the entire month of June entering play on Friday, served up a game-tying home run to Mookie Betts and then couldn't keep the Red Sox from taking the lead. It's a disappointing performance from Bush, who got the call after Jake Diekman struggled (and with Sam Dyson resting), but he'll remain one of Texas' key setup men.

Rangers | Sam Dyson given night off

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 22:25:40 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Sam Dyson was held out of action by manager Jeff Banister on Friday, June 24, to give the closer some extra rest following a day off. The Rangers blew a three-run lead in the ninth and lost, 8-7.

Fantasy Tip: On one hand it makes sense -- Dyson's 39 appearances are tied for the most in baseball -- but Jake Diekman and Matt Bush couldn't finish the job, ending Texas' 24-game winning streak when leading by multiple runs at any point in a game. Still, in the long run this probably strengthens Dyson's hold on the job.

Rangers | Robinson Chirinos receiving day off

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:16:30 -0700

Texas Rangers C Robinson Chirinos is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Friday, June 24. C Bobby Wilson will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is hitting only .143 with two RBI over the last seven days and is not a great option for most fantasy owners.

Rangers | Nomar Mazara not in the lineup

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:15:21 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Nomar Mazara is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Friday, June 24. OF Ryan Rua will start in left field and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rua has gone hitless in his last six at-bats but does have a .295 batting average in June. He will have a tough matchup Friday but should be an attractive option in daily fantasy leagues because he hits .396 against left-handed pitchers.

Rangers | Sam Dyson collects 15th save

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:45:50 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Sam Dyson pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, June 22, to register his 15th save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Since "officially" ascending to the closer's role on May 18, Dyson has gone a perfect 12-for-12 in save opportunities while allowing four runs in 18 1/3 innings, good for a 1.96 ERA to go with a 0.82 WHIP. As nasty as Matt Bush and Jake Diekman have been in setup roles, Dyson has been lights out in the ninth. He has an MLB-best nine saves in June and shows no signs of slowing down.

Rangers | Matt Bush dominating in June

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:33:31 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Matt Bush worked a scoreless seventh inning against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, June 22. He did not allow a hit and was credited with his ninth hold of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Bush has made nine appearances in June, covering 7 2/3 innings, during which he has allowed ONE hit and no runs while striking out 10. He also has six holds and a win in that time as the Rangers continue to use him in high-leverage situations. Bush isn't working enough to hold value in standard leagues, but he could be of use in AL-only formats and those that count holds.

Rangers | Cole Hamels wins third straight

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 21:22:13 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels allowed just one run on five hits over six innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, June 22. He walked two and struck out eight.

Fantasy Tip: In five June starts, this is Hamels' line: 34 2/3 IP, 22 H, 7 ER, 14 BB, 28 K's. That's good for a 3-0 record, 1.82 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He has been extremely consistent, and at 8-1 with 95 K's in 96 2/3 innings for the season, Hamels is a must-start in all leagues.

Rangers | Yu Darvish could throw this weekend

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 17:55:56 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (shoulder) could throw a bullpen session this weekend but is unlikely to throw a simulated game or pitch in a rehab game for at least another week, according to pitching coach Doug Brocail.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish should continue to be stashed in all fantasy formats even though no official timetable has been established for his return. Expect the club to err on the side of caution when it comes to his rehab, especially since he's not too far removed from Tommy John surgery.
