Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Moreland is out due to the matchup with a lefty pitcher, so sideline him for the evening if you can. The Rangers want to put Profar in the lineup more often so this is an encouraging sign. Profar has seven hits in his last seven games but doesn't play every day. He's reliable in DFS formats for the time being.

Fantasy Tip: Mazara is a casualty of a lefty vs. lefty matchup, so don't be surprised to see him available for pinch-hit duty. Rua only has one hit in his past seven games so he carries little, if any, fantasy value.

Texas Rangers OF Ian Desmond extended his hitting streak to nine games Monday, June 27, with a first-inning solo blast off New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova. Desmond added an RBI groundout in the third to lift his team-high RBI total to 51.
Fantasy Tip: Desmond is batting .406 with four home runs, seven RBI and has scored eight times during his streak. He is slashing .321/.373/.532 after Monday's victory, which was delayed in the ninth inning for nearly as long (three hours, 35 minutes) as the game actually lasted (three hours, 43 minutes). As a top-five fantasy player regardless of position who is lighting it up in each of the five major offensive categories, he should be starting in every league.

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre managed only one hit in five at-bats versus the New York Yankees on Monday, June 27, but made it count with a two-run, go-ahead single that sparked a four-run ninth inning.
Fantasy Tip: The clutch base knock also extended his hitting streak to six games, during which he has driven in six runs - including five over his last three contests. Despite his impressive RBI total for the season (48), Beltre has been stuck on 10 home runs since June 3 and has fallen back in the pack among fantasy third basemen. At the moment, most owners should be able to do better than him at the hot corner.

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels is taking an eight-game road winning streak into his start against the New York Yankees Tuesday, June 28, but he's gone 0-3 with a 5.64 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees, with two coming in New York.
Fantasy Tip: Ignore Hamels' past history against the Yanks in a small sample size. He's sporting an ERA of 2.79, WHIP of 1.22 and is fanning 8.8 hitters per nine innings in 15 starts. Plus, the Yankees are dead last in the AL with an OPS of .700 against lefty pitchers in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has a 5.20 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and only 5.3 strikeouts per nine innings for the Rangers this year in 14 starts. His inability to miss bats frequently doesn't make him very attractive to fantasy owners outside of AL-only leagues when he's healthy and in the rotation.

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (shoulder) is expected to face hitters Wednesday, June 28, in a live batting practice session. He threw his first bullpen session Sunday, June 26, since going on the disabled list June 9.
Fantasy Tip: Darvish will likely need a rehab start or two before returning from the DL. Stay tuned on his progress. When healthy, though, he can perform as your fantasy ace, so he should remain stashed in all formats.

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar has been out of the lineup eight times in the last 11 games, but manager Jeff Banister is not concerned about the lack of playing time for Profar. Profar will likely play first base against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Tuesday, June 28, and Banister said Profar will play "three or four" times a week. Profar entered the game Monday, June 27, hitting .429 (6-for-14) since moving to a part-time role.
Fantasy Tip: While Profar hasn't played as much of late, he continues to produce at the plate when called upon. His multiposition eligibility also continues to make him attractive for infield depth in deep mixed and AL-only affairs. Profar makes for a nice value pick if he does start against Sabathia in DFS tomorrow.

Fantasy Tip: Perez has a respectable 3.44 ERA, but his poor strikeout totals limit his value to AL-only formats.

Fantasy Tip: Texas isn't going to rush Darvish, so continue to stash him and hope he returns in time to help down the stretch of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Holaday has not receive much playing time over the last month and is only 2-for-11 this month. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland has been consistent, driving in 11 runs in April, 10 runs in May and he has 10 runs driven in so far in June. He remains a solid fantasy option in AL-only fantasy leagues, deeper mixed formats and DFS play despite his low average.

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus went 1-for-2 with a triple, two walks, a run scored and three RBIs Saturday, June 25, against the Boston Red Sox. He has five RBIs in the first two games of the series against the Red Sox.
Fantasy Tip: Andrus is enjoying his best offensive month of the season, posting a solid average with speed and plenty of runs scored. He remains a solid middle infielder option across most fantasy formats.
Sat, 25 Jun 2016 22:54:43 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Desmond is hitting .322 with 13 homers and 49 RBIs, as he continues to roll up huge numbers. He is parlaying his one-year contract gamble into a possible big payday next offseason.
Fri, 24 Jun 2016 22:42:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Griffin pitched well prior to hitting the disabled list with shoulder stiffness, but he couldn't have picked a tougher opponent to return against. Griffin has clear AL-only and some deeper mixed value, but it might be prudent to keep him in reserve for his first start back.
