Falcons | Several Falcons competing for return job

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:51:16 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WRs Devin Fuller, Aldrick Robinson and Eric Weems and RBs Tevin Coleman and Terron Ward are all under consideration to serve as the team's primary returner on kickoffs and punts if WR Devin Hester (toe) is unable to return to form in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Hester underwent surgery on his right big toe during the offseason and is still considered the favorite to return kicks and punts in 2016. Aside from his contributions on special teams, however, he doesn't offer much from a fantasy standpoint. Of the remaining players competing for the role, Weems has the most experience as a return man and would likely win the job if Hester is unable to be as effective as he was prior to getting injured.

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:57:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons CB Akeem King continues to make the transition from wide receiver in college to cornerback in the pros. King is considered raw, but expected to have an opportunity to win a starting job during training camp and the preseason.

Falcons | Austin Hooper is solid blocker

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:55:54 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper drew comparison to fellow Stanford alum and current New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener when coming out of college. However, he is viewed as a much better blocker, and the rookie should help spring RB Devonta Freeman in the run game.

Fantasy Tip: Hooper is likely to have a big role in Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme, but look for the rookie to only be useful in the deepest of fantasy leagues initially. He is likely to be used to block more than see actual targets and receptions.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu bonding with QB

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:14:36 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu has bonded with QB Matt Ryan, working together at Ryan's passing camp in Orlando, and throughout June minicamp. The duo built chemistry as the practices wore on. "He's got great hands," Ryan said. "One of the things I noticed right from the start is how strong his hands are. He's a really good worker. I think he can really help us."

Fantasy Tip: Sanu will step into the role vacated by veteran Roddy White. He has never posted more than 790 receiving yards in a season, but that should change in 2016. If not, he will be a huge fantasy bust since he shouldn't slip past the middle rounds in most formats on draft day.

Falcons | Tevin Coleman will be more involved

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 13:01:46 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman is expected to receive more touches on offense this season, according to running backs coach Bobby Turner.

Fantasy Tip: Coleman was limited to 12 games in 2015 because of injuries but should receive more work because the team wants to keep Devonta Freeman fresh. Coleman will need to fix his fumbling problems but should be a late-round option in most fantasy drafts.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman may receive less touches

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 12:33:14 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman likely will receive less carries in 2016 because running backs coach Bobby Turner believes less work will keep Freeman fresher during the season.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman is coming off a solid 2015 season but it appears that he will lose some work to Tevin Coleman this season. He recorded 1,061 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and should still be a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

NFL | Roddy White still wants to play

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 12:24:47 -0700

Free-agent WR Roddy White (Falcons) said he still wants to play in the NFL. White and his agent have received interest and have been going over his opportunities. The veteran receiver added that he wants to play for a winner at this point in his career and still feels like he can play at a high level.

Fantasy Tip: The first step is for a team to actually sign White. Even then, his role may be unclear and he may be lower on the depth chart than he's used to. For now, he can be avoided since he isn't actually on a team.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu impressing Matt Ryan

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 20:54:11 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu has been developing chemistry with QB Matt Ryan during spring practices, and Ryan said he has been impressed with how strong Sanu's hands are.

Fantasy Tip: Sanu is going to open the year as the No. 2 receiver across from Julio Jones. While it remains to be seen if he can thrive in a larger role, he is in a position to be a low-end WR2 in 2016.

Falcons | Keanu Neal impressing coaches

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 10:37:25 -0700

Atlanta Falcons SS Keanu Neal was impressive during offseason workouts, according to defensive coordinator Richard Smith. "He's extremely focused, he's very mature, he's very, very talented. I love his demeanor and his work ethic. He's the first one in the building trying to get more coaching; he wants to be coached so much. I think he's going to be pretty special," Smith said. Neal is expected to compete for the starting strong safety job during training camp.

Falcons | Atlanta won't go for two all the time

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 10:25:04 -0700

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn understands that attempting two-point conversions is becoming a bigger part of the game but indicated that the Falcons probably will not attempt two-point conversions often. Quinn said sometimes it is a gut decision on whether or not to go for two points.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons likely will kick the extra point most of the time but players like Matt Ryan, Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones could see a small boost in value if the team is successful at two-point conversions.

Falcons | Austin Hooper making good impression

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 19:22:30 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper has impressed offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan with his route-running ability and ball skills. "He really comes off the ball hard," Shanahan said. "He's not the fastest guy in the world, but he's fast enough. He's got good cutting ability, so he can break guys off at the top of his routes."

Fantasy Tip: Hooper will likely take a backseat to Jacob Tamme in 2016, but Hooper is the tight end of the future in Atlanta and is worth grabbing in the later rounds of dynasty drafts.
