Falcons | Atlanta won't go for two all the time

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 10:25:04 -0700

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn understands that attempting two-point conversions is becoming a bigger part of the game but indicated that the Falcons probably will not attempt two-point conversions often. Quinn said sometimes it is a gut decision on whether or not to go for two points.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons likely will kick the extra point most of the time but players like Matt Ryan, Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones could see a small boost in value if the team is successful at two-point conversions.

Falcons | Austin Hooper making good impression

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 19:22:30 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper has impressed offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan with his route-running ability and ball skills. "He really comes off the ball hard," Shanahan said. "He's not the fastest guy in the world, but he's fast enough. He's got good cutting ability, so he can break guys off at the top of his routes."

Fantasy Tip: Hooper will likely take a backseat to Jacob Tamme in 2016, but Hooper is the tight end of the future in Atlanta and is worth grabbing in the later rounds of dynasty drafts.

Falcons | Matt Ryan working on feet

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 15:09:34 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has been working on increasing his comfort level with the offense this offseason. Ryan has worked in front of a mirror to try to get his feet in the right position to be able to throw the ball the way he wants to and to improve the timing of the play. He is able to watch his feet closely this way and can make sure everything is aligned correctly before dropping back.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan definitely struggled in Kyle Shanahan's offense last season, throwing just 21 touchdowns to 16 interceptions. He did throw for over 4,500 yards, but he's still a backup fantasy quarterback heading into 2016.

Falcons | More deep balls for Julio Jones?

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 19:08:46 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to see a lot more work down the field this season, as offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan anticipates taking more deep shots. The team added WR Mohamed Sanu, TE Austin Hooper and WR Justin Hardy continues to develop, and Shanahan is hopeful their addition will help keep added defensive attention off of Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Jones still had a giant season for the Falcons and his fantasy owners, leading the league with 1,871 receiving yards. However, he managed to find the end zone just eight times, which was a bit of a disappointment. Regardless, after 136 grabs and a league-high in yardage, he is an obvious first- or second-round pick in all fantasy formats and a bona fide first-rounder in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues.

Falcons | Justin Hardy set for big role?

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 14:50:12 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Justin Hardy is expected to be a major contributor in the passing game this season.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy will compete with Mohammed Sanu for targets behind No. 1 receiver Julio Jones. The athletic sophomore could be the second option in the passing game by the fantasy playoffs, and his upside is worth targeting with a late-round pick.

Falcons | Austin Hooper to participate in minicamp

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:54:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper will take part in the club's mandatory minicamp beginning Tuesday, June 14. He was unable to participate in three weeks of organized team activities because Stanford's academic calendar had not been completed.

Fantasy Tip: Hooper is likely to open the 2016 season as the No. 2 tight end on the Falcons' depth chart behind Jacob Tamme. He is not worth drafting in traditional leagues but is viewed by the organization as the tight end of the future.

Falcons | Fewer touchdowns recently for Julio Jones

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 05:43:53 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones scored 18 touchdowns on 133 catches through the first two seasons of his career, and over the past three years, he has caught just 16 touchdowns on 281 receptions.

Fantasy Tip: While Jones remains an elite fantasy receiver, it sure would be nice to see double-digit touchdowns in his stat line at the end of the season, especially in standard leagues. He is a first-round option in all formats with slightly more valuable in PPR setups.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman limited Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 12:38:19 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (gluteus) was limited during practice Tuesday, June 7, because of a high gluteal strain, but head coach Dan Quinn said the injury is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman could be limited for the rest of the offseason workouts but should be fine for training camp. He recorded 1,096 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015 and should receive most of the carries in 2016. He should be selected in one of the early rounds of drafts and will be a weekly starting option.

Falcons | Ricardo Allen packs on pounds

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 09:48:44 -0700

Atlanta Falcons FS Ricardo Allen is up to 196 pounds from 187 pounds last season and said he's eating six or seven times a day to retain the weight.

"I was eating a breakfast and then I was eating at the end of the day," Allen said. "In the middle of it, I was losing a bunch of weight. I was burning everything. We'd come out to practice and before practice, I wasn't really eating much, either. Now, I've got a little bit more weight to come with me. I feel like my speed has stayed the same. I'm running hard. My conditioning feels pretty good."
