NFL | Chris Johnson confident he can still go

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 19:26:14 -0800

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Cardinals) said in an interview Tuesday, Feb. 28, that he can "definitely" still make plays and that he still has his speed.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson experienced some bad luck in his two years with the Cardinals, first falling just short of a 1,000-yard campaign in 2015 after fracturing his tibia with a handful of games remaining. Then this past season, he went down in Week 4 and required season-ending sports-hernia surgery. The 31-year-old should draw interest as a change-of-pace back, but his days of fantasy relevance are likely over.

NFL | Andrew Hawkins requested release

Mon, 27 Feb 2017 19:41:48 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Andrew Hawkins (Browns) had asked for his release "several weeks ago" before it finally happened Monday, Feb. 27. He said his agent has already talked to "quite a few teams."

Fantasy Tip: A six-year veteran, Hawkins hasn't really come close to living up to expectations he set for himself after a 63-catch, 824-yard campaign in 2014. This past season, the soon-to-be 31-year-old was limited to just 33 receptions and 324 yards while suiting up in all 16 games. It's likely his best days are behind him.

Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes' stock is gaining steam as the NFL Draft approaches, according to NFL Network's Mike Mayock. Mayock believes Mahomes should be a first-round consideration. "He's different. He's a gunslinger, he's got an innate feel for the game," Mayock said. "The more I look at him, the more I push him higher and closer to that first-round conversation."
